Russia’s Daniil” medvedev> insists he doesn’t feel anymosity towards Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas but underlines that they are “definitely not friends.” Medvedev, 23, confronted 20-year-old Tsitsipas after their Miami Masters clash last year as the Russian accused the Greek of bad sportsmanship and claimed he was insulted on the court.
Medvedev appeared to be ready to fight Tsitsipas but the Greek refused to talk back to the Russian as he just walked away from the court. However, the two appeared to be on good terms now after flying together from Washington to Montreal in a private jet.
Nick Kyrgios, who was also on the jet, later posted a picture the three took at the airport. “I don’t have any animosity against him, but we are definitely not friends,” Medvedev said after his quarterfinal win at the Montrral Masters, as revered by Tennis Panorama News on Twitter.
Medvedev, ranked at No. 9 in the world, demolished fourth-ranked Dominic Thiem 6-3 6-1 to set up a semifinal meeting against fellow compatriot Karen Khachanov. Khachanov, seeded at No. 6, handed a straight-set defeat to third-seeded Alexander Zverev to progress into the semifinal.
“Karen (over Zverev) for sure! He is my countryman and my good friend. I’m happy he leads 2-0 already,” Medvedev said, when asked whom he would prefer to face.
