Je fais confiance à Rafael Nadal, je ne fais pas confiance à ses genoux – James Blake

The former top five player and current Miami Open Tournament Director James Blake, alongside the former world No. 5 WTA player Chanda Rubin, commented on Rafael” nadal> physical shape ahead of the Rogers Cup in Montreal.

Memories of his last hard court matches are not great for the Spaniard as he withdrew from his semifinal against the Swiss Roger Federer in Indian Wells earlier this year. “I trust him, I do not trust his knees”, said Blake speaking of Nadal.

“If he is healthy, he is the favorite to get through this event. But for him it’s a great test, coming after Wimbledon, seeing how his knee would do, I would suspect that’s the only tournament he plays before the US Open so putting in many matches would definitely help him.

Without Roger Federer and Novak Djokovic, I do not think there is going to be too many people out there who he doesn’t feel like he has a good match up with. I like that draw, against Evans he can get into the match, get a lot of points and test down his knee.”

Rubin added: “It’s not an easy draw but it’s manageble, especially the first two rounds would give him a good idea of where his body is and where his knee is. So I think he will not be that upset or disappointed about the draw.

It’s about how he feels at the end of the event and of course the US Open will be much different at the best of five.
