Roger” federer> and Novak Djokovic are back on Tour. For the first time since Wimbledon final, they will compete again in next week’s Cincinnati tournament. The Swiss trained with the Bulgarian Grigor Dimitrov on Friday, while the Serb hit with the Italian Matteo Berrettini.

The Italian has not played since Wimbledon either, as he was forced to withdraw from Bastad, Gstaad and Montreal events due to an ankle injury. Berrettini had looked like ready to compete at the Rogers Cup but he took a last-minute withdrawal in order to fully recover.

He has been training in Ohio since Thursday. Federer is coached by Severin Luthi in Cincinnati. Ivan Ljubicic will join them in the US Open. Djokovic is instead being helped by the 2001 Wimbledon winner Goran Ivanisevic, as his longtime coach Marian Vajda is supposed to become grandfather soon.

The Basel native won 46 matches out of 55 played in Cincinnati and conquered seven titles. He lost last year’s final to the Belgrade native. That was a bit tiring tournament for Federer who had a three-set quarter-final against Stan Wawrinka and also dealt with some wrist issues until the US Open.

Federer has a close connection with Cincinnati as the Tournament Director Andre Silva was his co-agent.
