In an interview to Tennis World USA, the Marseille Open Tournament Director Jean-Francois Caujolle commented on Rafael” nadal> and Roger Federer coming back in the Player Council. Caujolle said: “They do not want one guy to have all the power as they already share the leadership of the game.
Djokovic was leading the Council and they want to share their ideas. It’s about a combined vision of the game, not just one individual. They want to share their ideas. There are many Americans now, Querrey, Isner, Pospisil who represented the U.S.
They want to have a more European view. In the 70s when I was playing, all players were involved. While in the 90s Safin, Agassi, Krajicek did not want to get involved. I did not know Federer and Nadal wanted to comeback.”
On the Rome Open increasing tickets prices because of Federer announcing his appearance at last minute, Caujolle concluded: “It was a shame. You have Federer, but it’s a mandatory event. If Federer comes to my tournament, prices would not increase.
Can you imagine Wimbledon or French Open increasing prices just because of Federer and Nadal playing?” Asked who will be the next Grand Slam winner, Caujolle replied: “It’s quite difficult to predict. Medvedev is really good.
He may not be as talented as Zverev or Tsitsipas. Khachanov looks a bit like Marat Safin, when he was playing well it was really difficult to beat him. He can be very good in one or two tournaments but not that consistent. Tsitsipas is a really good guy. Felix Auger-Aliassime can become very good, Denis Shapovalov can play well again on fast courts.”
